Pace, finish time and distance

Pace is elapsed time divided by distance. Finish time is distance multiplied by pace. Distance is elapsed time divided by pace. Use elapsed time consistently: moving time excludes stops and gives a different answer. The splits assume even pace; they do not account for hills, wind or fatigue.

Worked example

A 5 km run completed in 25:00 averages 5:00 per kilometre, or 12 km/h. The cumulative kilometre splits are 5:00, 10:00, 15:00, 20:00 and 25:00. A final partial mile or kilometre gets its own finish row.

Common questions.

Can I calculate a 5K or half-marathon finish time?

Yes. Choose Calculate time, set the race distance, and enter pace per selected unit. Race presets convert to miles when miles are selected.

Are the splits cumulative?

Yes. Each row shows the total elapsed time when you reach that distance. The final row includes a partial mile or kilometre when needed.

How should I enter time?

Use m:ss, such as 25:00, or h:mm:ss, such as 1:45:30. Seconds and interior minutes must be below 60. A bare number is not treated as minutes.
