Count pairs, not individual plates
Two 45 lb plates form one pair: one goes on each side. Enter the number of pairs available at each size. The calculator subtracts your bar, divides the remainder equally and searches your actual inventory. If the requested load is unavailable, it shows the nearest attainable weight below the target.
Worked example
A 225 lb total with a 45 lb bar leaves 180 lb in plates, or 90 lb per side. Load two 45 lb plates on each side. A standard 20 kg bar is not exactly 45 lb; weigh or check your own bar and enter its actual value. Include collar weight in the bar field if you want it counted.

Common questions.
Can I use a lighter or specialty bar?
Yes. Enter its actual weight. The 45 lb and 20 kg values are examples, not assumptions about your equipment.
What if my target cannot be loaded?
The result shows the closest load at or below your request using only your available pairs. It tells you the shortfall and never silently rounds above the target.
Does changing units convert the equipment?
Changing the plate set loads a new common lb or kg example, including its bar, target and plate sizes. Enter the pair counts for the equipment you actually have.
